Aggressive Behavior

To help with aggressive behavior, the following is suggested:

  • Try to limit contact with people who seem to disturb the person with Alzheimer's disease.

  • As much as possible, try to make changes in the home or in the bedroom.  For example, cover mirrors or remove them if they disturb the patient.

  • Cover the windows or lights that create shadows in the home or bedroom if the patient is frightened or disturbed by the reflections of the windows or lights.

  • Consult a doctor who specializes in Alzheimer's disease to determine if there is some medical reason that could be causing the aggression.  For example, the person with Alzheimer's disease may need a new medication or could be having a bad reaction to medication he or she is taking.  There are also medications that can help to control aggressive behaviors.  Consult with the doctor to find the right medication for the patient.

Asking for help was hard at first. I wanted my children to believe their father was fine!
